How to Pose – The Importance of Your Chin
Clients think I'm crazy — until they see the proof.
Headshots can be a game of centimeters. If your chin isn't positioned correctly, it can throw off your whole image.
Why I keep saying "chin down"
My clients laugh because I'm constantly telling them to put their chins down. It sounds like a small thing, but it makes a big difference in the outcome — the angle changes how your jawline reads and how much attention your eyes get in the frame.
I'll be honest, sometimes we go too far and the chin ends up a bit too low, but only by a couple of centimeters. That's the kind of adjustment we're talking about — tiny, and worth getting right.
A simple rotation, a different presence
A slight chin rotation and a small change in attitude can make a surprisingly big difference in how a portrait presents. It's one of my favorite things to demonstrate in a session, because most people don't believe it until they see their own two shots side by side.
Nervous in front of the camera? Good, you're normal
Most of my clients come in nervous and leave looking like rock stars.
